Soundtrack of my life

So I’ve seen a few people do this before and it looked like fun so I thought I’d give it a try!

• My first album

I can’t actually remember what the first album I ever got was, but the first one I remember listening to all the time was probably Avril Lavigne’s first album, ‘Let Go’. I was 8 when it came out and Avril Lavigne was my idol when I was growing up, I loved her so much! Every time I hear this album it just reminds me of my childhood and I have such fond memories of listening to it 24/7 and singing along to it in my bedroom at the top of my lungs, haha.

• Long term relationship album

One album that will never get old for me is ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ by Olly Murs. Even though it only came out in 2011 which couldn’t really be described as ‘long term’, it’s one of the oldest albums that I listen to now and still get the same happy feeling that comes with the memories attached to all the songs. It reminds me of my friends and being at school, and every song on it makes me smile which is why I think I’ll love this album forever.

• Song that makes me happy

There are so many songs that make me happy, but the one that always makes me the happiest in the world is ‘Through the Dark’ by One Direction, my ultimate favourite song ever! As you probably already know because I’ve mentioned it a thousand times, this song always cheers me up and makes me smile, it makes me feel like anything is possible no matter how cringe that sounds!

• Song/album that makes me want to dance

A song that ALWAYS makes me wanna dance without fail is ‘Greedy’ by Ariana Grande. I just love it so much and it’s so upbeat and boppy that I cannot help but get on my feet and dance around when I hear it! Apart from if I’m on the train or something, that would be weird. But yeah, that song is my jam and I always have a little boogie when it comes on.

• First gig

Fitting nicely with my first album, my first concert was also Avril Lavigne. I got the tickets for Christmas in 2007 and I was so so happy and excited, I couldn’t believe it! And I guess on 30th May 2008 my love affair with concerts began and I never looked back. Ahh, good times.

• Song I wish I'd written

So many! I always admire well written songs because I’m a writer myself and always wonder how people can write such amazing songs. Although I write poetry I don’t think I’d ever be able to write a song! I think Bastille songs are always so amazingly written, but it’d have to be ‘Innocent’ by Taylor Swift because it’s one of the most beautifully written songs ever in my opinion. All Taylor’s songs are lyrically amazing but this one came to my mind because I just really adore the message of it and think the lyrics are so poignant, meaningful and beautiful and I wish I’d been able to come up with such amazing words!

• Song that reminds me of being a teen

Oh gosh this is such a hard one? There’s so many songs that remind me of different stages of my teens? For some reason the song that popped into my head first was ‘Super Bass’ by Nicki Minaj which is such a bad song but it reminds me of prom, being 16 and just having finished GCSEs and for me that was one of the most memorable moments of my teens! So yeah I’d say that, but also ‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicii because it reminds me of starting uni and freshers nights out, also another highlight (or perhaps not) of my late teens!

• Karaoke Song

It could never be anything other than ‘Reach’ by S Club 7! I used to sing this into my karaoke microphone when I was little and thought I was such a pop star, haha. Honestly though this song is the perfect one to belt out in karaoke, I love it so much no matter how cheesy it is!

• Songs that remind me of home

Literally every Coldplay song ever. There’s just something about Coldplay that makes me feel all warm and comforted inside, like I’m home. I think it’s because my dad always used to play Coldplay albums in the car and at home when I was little, so I just associate them with family and home. Especially the old ones like ‘Shiver’, ‘Yellow’, ‘Clocks’ and ‘The Scientist’. Ahh, just singing those songs in my head right now made me so nostalgic.

• Ultimate desert island disc

THIS IS SO HARD. I’d probably say ‘Through the Dark’ again but since I’ve already answered that I won’t allow myself haha. Possibly ‘Sign of the Times’ by Harry Styles though. Even though it’s a pretty new song I think I’d happily listen to it on repeat if I was stuck on a desert island. Even though it’s a little sad, it also makes me happy in a weird way because it gives me hope that things will get better, and I think that’s the kind of motivation you need when you’re stuck on a desert island.

There you have it, the soundtrack of my life! (sort of, there’s way more music that would make up that soundtrack). Hope you enjoyed this post, it was a bit of fun and I really enjoy writing posts like these! I’ve been a little bit stuck recently on things to write about so if anyone has any suggestions please leave a comment! Also if any of you want to try out this post for yourself, go for it and remember to let me know you’ve done it so I can check them out!

As always thank you so much for reading, x

  1. Lovely post, I love reading which albums connect to parts of people's lives! One of my long term relationship albums has to be In Case You Didn't Know as well, I've actually not listened to it for ages but there are some amazing songs on there like On My Cloud and Anywhere Else. Now you've reminded me of it I'll have to go listen! X
